Before creating my final product, I designed a flat plan for my front cover, contents page and my double page spread. For my front cover I chose a basic colour scheme, similar to NME and Q which include the use colours White, Black and Purple, which all contrast each other, making all three pages stand out and appeal to my potential readers. My masthead is going to be the largest text on the page and will also be thick and bold, making it stand out to the reader which will help it get recognized and easily remembered by my target audience. The masthead will fit with the colour scheme as it will be black. Again, it will be easily spotted as it will contrast with the plain, white background. These colours appeal to both male and female as they are not set to any gender. This makes the product seem more professional as I have kept to three colours. My main image consist of four models which will be based in the centre of my magazines. My image will be a long shot consisting of three males and one female. This makes the bands target audience range between both sexes as both sexes are in the band. The artists eyes will be within the rule of thirds as I want to create a bond between reader and artist. This will encourage the reader to purchase and read the .magazine. This image will be taken in the studio, giving me the best equipment possible to make my models appeal to their full potential for my target readers. I have used phrases in my sell lines such as 'Exclusive', this will encourage my potential readers to read the article as they will be interested.
For my contents page, I intend on using the same colour scheme, keeping the magazine continuous which will make it easily noticed by readers. It also makes the product look professional throughout. I intend to make my contents page crowded to make my target audience feel as if it was 'worth what they paid for' but will still be easy to read, it also gives the readers a lot of information about their favorite artists, this is similar to NME. Not shown on my plan, I intend on using a different artist for my contents page to my front cover. I plan on using a long shot, which is not noticed on my plan, showing my artist in an environment other than the studio, making the models seem free and loose which my potential readers would find appealing. On my contents page, I intend on having selling lines under my page numbers, making the readers want to read that specific article more. The masthead from the front cover will be put on the contents page making it consistent and professional, similar to NME. However, the text 'contents' will be in the different text to the masthead 'PULSE!' which makes it stand out to the reader. The text 'contents' will still be black to contrast with the plain, relaxed background which will catch the readers attention.
For my double page spread, I will keeping it consistent by using the same colour scheme. I intend on using one large image based on the left hand side of the page as it will be the first thing the readers will look, which will make them interested to read the article. My main image will be of the same artists on the front cover (The Consequence) and I plan on using a mid shot. This will show the readers the full body of the artists and the clothing they are wearing. I intent on making my artists wear clothing which fits with the 'Indie' genre. This will attract my potential readers as the clothing will suggest similar interests. My double page spread will be simple compared to the other pages of my magazine. This is because the image takes up most of the space, unlike other magazines. This will make the reader seem more relaxed and eager to read the article as it is less busy. My article will include quotes which will encourage my potential readers to read the article. This will be easier as my article is a interview. The colour of the article will be black and red. Red being the questions and black being the answers. These colours contrasts with the plain white background, making it more relaxed and more noticeable.
