Discovered in the 80’s to become one of the most popular and most recognised bands known world wide, The Consequence’s lyric writer and bass player tell us why she made her hardest decision to leave the band, leaving them lost and hopeless. Sian Ward was amongst one of the worlds most talents musicians known throughout the UK and even the US. She took the world by storm with her lyrical talent by producing the bands biggest hit ‘Don’t Become Trapped’ which sold over 6 million copies. The Consequence reached over a millions fans by 1995 and announced their largest world tour. The band reached the top all down to their only female member Sian Ward who wrote the most beautiful songs we all know today. Now before me is the one and only Sian Ward;
What drove you to leave The Consequence?
"Well, I felt like an outsider. It wasn’t always that way, we use to be really close friends, but it turned out that they made decisions without me which affected me massively. It just didn’t feel right anymore, we all drifted apart, it was all about the profit! That’s not why we came into the music business. We did it for our fans. That is why I decided to leave."
What decisions did they make?
"I wouldn’t say they were huge decisions, but they would affect me in a way. Tour dates for example, they decided to tour in large, well known areas. Whereas I wanted us to tour in local places as well. We need to care for the little people too. Sian laughed".
Do you think the other band members took you for granted?
"Yes, I do. I believe we all play an equally important role in the band, for say, if we didn’t have Matt, we would have lost out on an extremely talented guitar player, and the same for Jacob, his voice is unbelievable. But, without me, there would be no lyrics, or bass and I really think they took me for granted due to that.
Are you happy now you have left The Consequence?
"Yes and no. I’m glad that I now have lots of free time to work on my solo project which I’ve been dreaming about doing for some time now. But I will always miss The Consequence. The music, the members, all of it. I love them all.
How is your new album coming along?
"It’s coming along great actually, I’m in the process of writing my new single which is called ‘Alone at Last’ which will be available on iTunes on the 29th of March and the album will be available in stores sometime in the middle of April. Sian smiles.
We all want to know, was there anything there between you and Matt?
"Sian laughs. I knew this would be a topic of interest. In all honesty, I and Matt are close. Possibly one of the closest members in the band. There have been a lot of rumours going around about us, but I can honestly say, that nothing has ever gone on between me and Matt.
Rumour has it that The Consequence was meant to be performing at Leeds Festival this year. Is this true?
"That is exactly true, and I don’t know how things are going to go down now that we are going through this break at the moment. I’m hoping we will still perform at Leeds as last year was excellent. I had an amazing time. I will never get back with the band permanently, but I’m up for a few reunited concerts. Makes things interesting doesn’t it. Sian shows a cheeky smile.
Thank you very much Sian for giving us a few hours of your time. I and the rest of the members of PULSE! Wish you all the best with your upcoming album, which comes out in April as a reminder. You heard it here first. The Consequence’s big split.
